Death Before Honor is a poem inspired by a dear friend of mine, Jevon Jordan, who was caught in the blast of a roadside bomb in Iraq on Easter Sunday in 2008. I found it very difficult to mourn him in the "stereotypical" fashion as all of my thoughts of Jevon were/are joyous. I took this difficulty as a sign that he and I maximized the time that we spent in one another's company and though my personal disdain for the "necessary evil" that is war is the central focus of this piece I hope that it encourages you to maximize that time that you have in the company of your loved ones.
